The upcoming Newcastle Studio Potters member exhibition, Inspired, will feature works influenced by eminent Australian potter Jeff Mincham, AM. Jeff will officially open the exhibition at Back to Back Galleries on Friday 11 July at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
He will lend three new pieces, not previously been shown in NSW, to the exhibition.
Jeff Mincham is one of Australia’s most influential ceramic artists with a career spanning over 30 years. In 2009, he was recognised as a ‘Living Treasure’ by Object: Australian Design Centre. His work is largely influenced by the Adelaide Hills landscape where he lives.
“There are a few of Jeff’s pieces in our workshop from a session he taught in the 1970s,” said Newcastle Studio Potters’ Vice President, Barbara Greentree. “Those pieces continually remind us of someone we admire due to the depth of his artistry and fact he has made a career from ceramics. Our workshop manager, Denise Spalding, and the committee have wanted this exhibition for some time. We are so excited it’s come to fruition and that Jeff is part of it.”
Jeff Mincham’s work often reflects a commitment to research and experimentation with glazes and surface techniques.
Members were asked to produce original pieces that were guided by Jeff’s artistic ethos and mastery of technique.
Jeff has agreed to return to Newcastle Studio Potters later in the year to deliver a symposium. “The exhibition and subsequent symposium promise to be a real learning experience, an extended masterclass,” said Mrs Greentree.
