Empty Bowls is a community fundraiser in conjunction with Port Hacking Potters Group and Sutherland Shire Lioness Club. Port Hacking Potters Group have been making handcrafted ceramic bowls, with the assistance of potters and students at Hazelhurst Arts Centre and TAFE NSW ceramic design centre.
The Empty Bowls Project aims to raise awareness for the uncertainties that homeless families face on a day to day basis. Guests are invited to purchase tickets for a bowl of soup, bread and dessert. The bowl is then taken home as an unspoken reminder that somewhere, someone’s bowl is empty.
Saturday 24 August will be an afternoon of food, art and community. Soup has been donated by local restaurants and organisations accross Sutherland Shire for the project. There will be entertainment, a silent auction (ceramic art) and an assortment of handmade bowls donated by the artists and participating schools. All proceeds to be distributed by Sutherland Shire Lioness Club to Shire Community Services.
You can help the Empty Bowls Project by volunteering or by donating handcrafted ceramic bowls. Contact Lisa 0431 556 570 OR Anna 0407 467 718 for more information.
