How to produce a Slump Moulded Plate by John Chalke In May 2000, internationally renowned Canadian potter John Chalke came to Australia to judge the '2000 Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramics Award' exhibited at 'Gallery 101' in Melbourne. John, sponsored by La Trobe University also presented a two day workshop at La Trobe University, Bendigo. Emanating from his many years of experience as a teacher and ceramic artist, John shows how a well considered, inventiveness combined with a sound understanding of material and techniques presents opportunities to push boundaries, at the same time, giving yourself permission to 'play'. The very reason most of us got involved with clay in the first place. The following images illustrate step by step the production of slump moulded plate forms. David Stuchbery. Senior Lecturer in Ceramics at La Trobe University, Bendigo. Photographs by Lorena Carrington. |
